Dental Bonding

Fixing a chipped tooth, cracked tooth or a gap in your teeth is fast, easy and affordable with dental bonding. Dental bonding can also be used to improve the appearance of slightly discolored teeth and to change the shape of teeth, but it is typically recommended for small cosmetic changes. Dental bonding is a composite resin filling that is placed behind and in front of your tooth. The resin comes in a variety of colors to provide you with the perfect shade to match your teeth. The bond covers any flaws that you may have in your teeth with a thin coat of plastic material that’s applied.  Unlike other cosmetic treatments, dental bonding can be performed with little to no advance preparation. Dental bonding is convenient and durable, taking just 30-60 minutes per tooth and lasting from 3-10 years. If there are any problems with your teeth in the days following you having the bonding done, such as sharp edges or issues with biting down, be sure to contact your dental office immediately.

Maintain your flawless smile by brushing, flossing and planning regular check-ups to your dentist. Having your teeth professionally cleaned two to four times a year will enhance the look of your bonding and help it with lasting longer. Toothbrushes with hard bristles are not recommended, for it will damage the teeth that have been bonded. Try to avoid sweets and foods containing a lot starch—bonding will last longer when it is kept clean. Also, try refraining from alcohol as much as possible. This will cause the bonding to weaken quickly. Be sure to also limit your intake of smoking and drinking coffee or tea, which will likely stain your teeth and the bonding. There are special polishing pastes and cleaning techniques that will help your bonded teeth last longer. Be sure to speak with your dentist on the options that are available to you.
